ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Instagram has announced a new feature allowing select creators to upload horizontal videos lasting up to 90 minutes, marking an expansion beyond its traditional focus on short-form content.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the feature in a video alongside Vice President of Product Tessa Lyons. The new format is designed for podcasters, comedy creators, and other producers of long-form videos.
Initially, the feature is being rolled out to a limited group of creators in the United States. Instagram says its goal is to provide more opportunities for creators to share content and connect with their audiences beyond Reels and static posts.
The platform will also allow creators to publish short promotional clips in the Reels format alongside their full-length videos. Viewers will be able to tap these clips to watch the complete videos, helping creators direct audiences from short-form content to longer productions.
Instagram Introduces Episodic Video Series
Instagram is also introducing a video series feature that will allow creators to organize content into multiple episodes. The feature is currently available to select creators in the United States, India and Mexico, with a possible expansion to additional countries in the future.
In another development, Instagram is preparing to integrate live streams into the Reels feed. This could allow live broadcasts to be recommended to users who do not follow the accounts hosting them.
Instagram for TV Expands to Apple TV
Instagram is expanding its television service, Instagram for TV, to Apple TV. The service was previously introduced on Samsung and Amazon Fire TV devices.
The platform also plans to introduce additional viewing features, including the ability to use mobile phones as TV remote controls and see what content friends are watching on their televisions.
Through these changes, Instagram aims to strengthen its long-form video offering, help creators reach wider audiences and improve the viewing experience across mobile devices and televisions.
