MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Social media platforms attributed to the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) are sharing AI-generated and edited images to give the impression that law enforcement agencies have been killing and injuring citizens in Mirpur.
Questions have been raised over several images circulating on the Overseas Joint Awami Action Committee’s Facebook page.
One image depicts people lying on the ground with claims that they had been shot. However, other images and videos that later surfaced appear to show the same individuals standing and walking alongside police officers, prompting questions about the accuracy of the original claims.
According to sources, these conflicting visuals have fueled further doubts about the authenticity of content circulating on social media.
Another widely shared image, showing a man holding a weapon, has also drawn attention from some users who suggest it may have been created or altered using artificial intelligence or digital editing.
Observers point to apparent inconsistencies in the structure of the hands, finger positioning and the grip on the weapon—features they say resemble common flaws found in AI-generated imagery.
Digital media experts say the growing accessibility of artificial intelligence has made it increasingly important to verify the authenticity and origin of images and videos before accepting or sharing them online.
They urged the public to rely on verified sources and exercise caution to help prevent the spread of misleading information, manipulated content and false propaganda.
