ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan on Wednesday welcomed the recent ratification of the Pakistan-Kuwait Defence Cooperation Agreement by the Kuwait government, which was signed by the two countries in June 2023.
Kuwait approved and published the agreement in the official gazette, Kuwait Al-Youm, on Sunday, the Kuwait Times reported.
In response to media queries, the Spokesperson of the Foreign Office, Tahir Andrabi, said the ratification marks another important milestone in the longstanding defence partnership between the two brotherly countries, dating back to the early 1980s.
“It also reflects the shared resolve of both sides to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and elevate their security partnership,” he said.

The FO added that the defence agreement provides a “comprehensive institutional framework for expanding defence cooperation, encompassing military training and education, joint exercises, exchanges of expertise, and other mutually agreed areas of collaboration.”
It will further enhance institutional linkages between the Armed Forces of both countries and consolidate the longstanding defence ties between Pakistan and Kuwait, Andrabi told the media.
The FO spokesperson further stated that “Pakistan and Kuwait will continue to work closely to implement the Agreement in accordance with its provisions, thereby expanding bilateral defence collaboration, strengthening their enduring defence partnership underpinned by mutual trust, shared interests, and close institutional cooperation, and contributing to regional peace, security and stability.”
Kuwaiti FM calls on PM Shehbaz
Earlier today, Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who is currently on a visit to Pakistan, called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to a statement issued by the PM Office, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Kuwait in diverse fields.
During their meeting, the prime minister reaffirmed Islamabad’s full solidarity with the Kuwaiti leadership and people and strongly condemned the attacks on the country and other brotherly Gulf states during the ongoing conflict.
“Pakistan was playing its part as an honest and sincere mediator and facilitator in the regional peace efforts and thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for supporting these efforts,” the PM added.
Shehbaz Sharif also appreciated the Kuwaiti government for hosting the Pakistani community and acknowledged its valuable contribution to Kuwait’s socio-economic development.
The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the Kuwaiti leadership to the Prime Minister and reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation.
