WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh, has called on the Trump administration to play a constructive role in resolving the long-standing Kashmir dispute, which he described as a major flashpoint between two nuclear powers.
In an interview with the American magazine News, Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh stated that Pakistan does not seek conflict but desires peace with dignity. He stressed, however, that the Pakistani nation will not hesitate to make any sacrifice to defend its national honour if needed.
He expressed hope that the Trump administration would support efforts for a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir conflict and appreciated President Donald Trump’s stated commitment to ending global wars and promoting lasting peace.
Warning of the dangers of the current regional situation, Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh said that Kashmir has become the most significant flashpoint between Pakistan and India. He emphasised that sustainable peace in South Asia is not possible until the Kashmir issue is resolved by United Nations resolutions.
Rejecting India’s repeated accusations of terrorism against Pakistan, he called them illogical and politically motivated. He argued that Pakistan has been one of the biggest victims of terrorism and that its stance on the matter has always been clear and consistent. He referred to the recent Pahalgam incident as a false flag operation.
Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh reiterated Pakistan’s desire for a peaceful and prosperous region, stating that economic growth depends on regional stability. He added that Pakistan is striving to use its geostrategic position to promote economic development.
The ambassador also strongly criticised India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a clear violation of the agreement. He argued that India cannot shift the burden of its domestic failures, repressive policies, or electoral needs onto Pakistan.
Throughout the interview, Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh maintained that Pakistan wants peace, but any threat to its sovereignty or dignity will be met with firm resolve. He underlined the importance of international mediation, particularly by the United States, in de-escalating tensions and preventing further instability in the region.
