ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Journalist Ammar Solangi has claimed that international media publication BBC Urdu has not paid its local staff for the past two months.
In a post shared on X, Solangi alleged that the delay in payments was linked to editorial expectations regarding coverage of local issues in Pakistan.
He further claimed that negative reporting was being encouraged, saying that this is the reason we see some employees covering multiple negative stories.
“BBC has not paid its local staff for 2 months. You know the reason? Not enough negative framing of local issues. That is why you see multiple negative stories coming out of Pakistani employees of BBC Urdu,” he wrote.

My message to local staff: don’t sell your soul. Stand up and speak. This… pic.twitter.com/oHBMGYoXsL— Ammar Solangi (@fake_burster) June 25, 2026
Solangi urged local staff of BBC Urdu to “stand up and speak” and prioritize national interests, arguing that professional responsibilities should not come at the expense of loyalty to one’s country.
The journalist also challenged BBC Urdu to publicly deny the allegations, claiming to possess documentary evidence, including bank transaction records and a copy of an email. “Let the BBC Urdu challenge that, and I will provide the missing bank transactions and a copy of the email,” he wrote.
