BHIMBER (Kashmir English): Anjuman Hassiniya Bhimber has appealed to the leadership of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) to consider scaling down or pausing protest activities during Muharram, keeping in view public order and the sanctity of the religious occasion.
The organisation issued a public appeal for peace, urging all stakeholders to ensure an atmosphere of harmony and respect during religious observances.
In a statement, Anjuman Hassiniya highlighted the spiritual importance of Muharram, describing it as a month of sacrifice, truth, and devotion, particularly for those who hold reverence for Ahlul Bayt.
It noted that across Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the wider Muslim world, religious gatherings, mourning ceremonies, and processions are held during this period.
They expressed hope that if JAAC adopts a positive attitude and brings relaxation in the protest activities, the government may also flex its existing hard position to resolve any issue amicably.
“We believe that dialogue, peace, and mutual respect are the only sustainable solutions to public issues and are fully aligned with religious harmony,” it added.
“We appeal to the government, administrative and political leadership, and all schools of thought to observe the holy month of Muharram with peace and harmony,” the statement further maintained.
The Shia community of Mirpur Division also appealed to the Awai Action Committee to postpone or end their protest in the month of Muharram.
“Since the first Muharram has begun and Section 144 is in force during the holy month of Muharram, all activities are prohibited,” the statement from Mirpur’s Shia community said.
