Four personnel martyred, 89 injured in recent violence by banned JAAC: AJK Police

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police on Monday said that four law enforcement personnel, including a Sub-Inspector, have been martyred while 89 others sustained injuries during violent incidents in AJK so far by members of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).

According to the press release issued by the spokesperson of the AJK Inspector General of Police, miscreants allegedly vandalized CMH Rawalakot, harassed patients, and opened direct fire on security personnel.

The spokesperson said that approximately 30 bullet marks were found on an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), while two of its tyres were torn apart during the attacks.

The press release noted that a reasonable number of law enforcement personnel remain deployed in Rawalakot to maintain public order and control the activities of the miscreants.

Explaining the law and order situation in the state, the police said that the situation in districts including Bhimber, Mirpur, Kotli, Sudhnoti, Haveli, Bagh, Jhelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and Neelum is generally under control.

“While some areas experienced shutdown activity and minor traffic disruptions,” it added.

The police statement further alleged that the cops are providing complete protection to the businessmen and vehicle owners; as a result, business activity and traffic flow are continuing.

81 cases registered

Moreover, police said a total of 81 criminal cases were registered against members of the banned JAAC between June 6 and June 14. During the same period, 425 miscreants were arrested.

“Illegal weapons, 15 automatic weapons with ammunition, iron rods, walkie-talkie sets, sensitive equipment, documents, etc. have been recovered from the possession of the arrested accused,” it added.

Authorities further stated that the names of more than 400 alleged members and workers of the banned organization are being processed for inclusion in the Fourth Schedule.

“As a result of the excellent strategy of the Azad Kashmir Police and other law enforcement forces, the overall law and order situation in Azad Kashmir is satisfactory. Traffic movement between districts is continuing. All entry points of Azad Kashmir are open and fully restored for traffic,” the press release reads.

The public has been urged to remain calm, avoid rumours, stay away from unlawful gatherings, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Police also appealed to citizens to immediately report suspicious activities, armed individuals, or any attempts to disrupt public order to the nearest police station or district administration.
