MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission on Thursday issued the final list of 12 candidates who have submitted nomination papers for election to the 8 reserved seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
The candidates submitted their nomination papers to the Secretary AJK Election Commission and the Returning Officer, Raja Muhammad Shakeel Khan.
A total of seven candidates submitted nomination papers on behalf of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while five candidates filed their papers on behalf of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
According to the Election Commission statement, the nomination papers of all 12 candidates were declared valid following scrutiny.
The PML-N submitted the nomination papers of Maryam Zaman, Maryam Idrees, Sehrish Qamar, and Riffat Abid for the four reserved seats for women. On the other hand, the PPP nominated Farzana Yaqoob, Shaheen Kausar Dar and Zubia Khurshid for the women’s reserved seats.
For the seat reserved for Ulema-e-Din or Mushaikh, PML-N nominated Pir Mazhar Saeed Shah, while the PPP’s Hafiz Tariq Mahmood submitted nomination papers.
For the seat of technocrats and other professionals, PML-N submitted the nomination papers of Barrister Iftikhar Gilani, while PPP nominated Sahibzada Zulfiqar Ali.
Meanwhile, PML-N’s Abdul Rehman was the only candidate to submit nomination papers for the seat reserved for Jammu & Kashmir State Subjects residing abroad (Overseas).
Secretary of the Election Commission Shakeel Khan said that the polling for the reserved seats will be held in the Assembly Hall on August 24.
Earlier today, the Acting President of AJK, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, summoned the session of the newly elected Legislative Assembly on August 24, Monday, at 2 pm.
As per the details, the newly elected members will take the oath in the session, while the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker is also likely to be completed in the same session. Elections will also be held for 8 reserved seats during the session from 9 am to 1 pm.
