ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has transferred more than Rs 121 million in Zakat funds to deserving families across the state ahead of Eid-ul-Azha 2026.
According to the press release issued on Wednesday, the amount was distributed through local Zakat and Ushr Committees into the personal accounts of deserving individuals across all ten districts of Azad Kashmir.
The distribution was carried out proportionately to population size under the supervision of the Zakat Department.
Officials stated that, despite challenging financial conditions, Secretary Zakat and Ushr Tehzeeb-ul-Nisa, and Chief Administrator Zakat and Ushr, Chaudhry Muhammad Razaq, ensured the timely release and transfer of funds.
According to the official details, Rs21.546 million has been provided to Muzaffarabad, Rs12.934 million to Kotli, Rs12.934 million to Poonch, Rs12.4 million to Mirpur, Rs11.5 million to Neelum, and Rs11.0 million to Bhimber.
Furthermore, Jhelum Valley gets Rs 10.2 million, while the government disbursed Rs 9.554 million for Bagh, Rs 9 million for Sudhnoti, and Rs 8.1 million for Haveli.
Officials said the funds were aimed at supporting extremely poor, destitute, and needy families so they could participate in Eid celebrations with dignity.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman AJK Zakat Council Chaudhry Iqbal said a transparent and fair Zakat distribution system had been established in Azad Kashmir.
He urged philanthropists to submit their Zakat and Ushr contributions through the department to ensure assistance reaches deserving individuals effectively.
