MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The convoy of former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and President Istehkam-e-Pakistan (IPP) AJK Sardar Tanveer Ilyas was hit by a landslide in Neelum on Tuesday morning.
As per the initial report, his convoy was struck by a cloudburst and landslide while travelling to Islamabad at Noori Top.
Following the incident, Tanveer’s convoy went back to Neelum; during the process, two of his vehicles have gone missing.
Sources close to him confirmed that the former premier remained completely safe in the accident. Due to the mountainous and remote area, the convoy faced severe difficulties in communication.
As soon as the incident was reported, the local administration and security agencies mobilized.
Sources say that due to the lack of mobile signals in the area, the rescue teams are failing to immediately contact and locate the missing people and vehicles.
The administration has said that rescue teams have been sent to the affected area to clear the landslide and have initiated the search and rescue operation for the missing people.
Moreover, the convoy of PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir was also behind Tanveer Ilyas’ convoy as the Neelum administration approved the two leaders to travel to Islamabad via Noori Top.
As per details, unknown people targeted Qadir’s close aide and seriously injured him with stone pelting and broke the windows of the vehicles, Tanveer Ilyas said in a post on Facebook.
“The injured person was given first aid by Tanveer Ilyas Khan’s staff and was sent to the hospital,” he said.
