MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In a major relief for traders and taxpayers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has allowed registered taxpayers in the region to submit their sales tax returns through its online portal.
The decision aims to address longstanding difficulties faced by local traders and business owners, particularly during the import clearance process.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for the AJK Central Board of Revenue (CBR), the Government of Pakistan and the FBR have formally authorized all AJK taxpayers registered on the FBR portal to file their sales tax returns online.
Previously, taxpayers from Azad Kashmir were unable to submit their returns through the portal, creating complications for businesses, particularly those involved in importing goods.
The decision was taken following a high-level meeting between officials of the AJK CBR and the FBR, held on the directives of AJK Prime Minister Barrister Iftikhar Gilani and Chief Secretary Khushhal Khan.
During the meeting, officials discussed the challenges faced by local taxpayers and agreed to facilitate online submission of sales tax returns through the FBR portal.
An official notification has also been issued to formalize the decision, providing much-needed relief to registered taxpayers and the business community in Azad Kashmir.
