MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Citizens in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have urged the government to resolve the ongoing dispute involving the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), expressing concern over the impact of strikes and sit-ins on daily life and economic activities.
Talking with Kashmir Digital, residents have appealed to AJK Prime Minister Iftikhar Ali Gilani to intervene and find a lasting solution through negotiations and mutual understanding.
Citizens said the prolonged protests, which they claimed had continued for around four and a half months, had caused financial difficulties for ordinary people, particularly low-income families and members of the business community.
One resident said the government should fulfil the committee’s demands if they could be addressed promptly, arguing that ending the sit-ins would allow people to resume their daily routines and business activities without disruption.
Another citizen appealed to the prime minister to resolve the matter through dialogue and prevent further difficulties for the public.
Residents also expressed concern over the risk of loss of life during unrest and urged the government and the committee to avoid actions that could endanger ordinary people. They called for peaceful measures to restore normality and protect the public’s right to go about their daily lives.
The citizens said road blockages and prolonged protests were affecting commuters, workers and traders, making it difficult for them to carry out their professional and business activities.
They urged the government to address the dispute, including issues concerning the teaching sector mentioned by one resident, and ensure that disagreements were resolved peacefully.
The residents stressed that negotiations and effective government intervention were necessary to ease public hardships and restore normal life across the region.
