MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The women’s park project, announced two years ago, for residents of Muzaffarabad, particularly women, remains distant due to government apathy and negligence.

Despite the foundation stone being laid at the project site in 2023, no construction work has begun, leaving the allocated land to become a garbage dump.

Sources said that the land mafia has set its sights on the park’s land, raising concerns among citizens. Locals are demanding immediate action from the government to start the project and protect the land from encroachment.

The park, situated behind the Neelum River, aimed to provide a safe, clean, and peaceful recreational space for women, enhancing the city’s natural beauty.

Muzaffarabad, known for its breathtaking views and picturesque landscapes, lacks recreational facilities, especially for women. The city’s scenic beauty, with the confluence of the Neelum and Jhelum rivers, makes it an ideal location for such projects.

Activities like walking in parks, light exercise, and enjoying natural scenery relieve citizens from stress and help in adopting healthy habits.

Unfortunately, in a beautiful city like Muzaffarabad, there is a severe shortage of such facilities, and the lack of specific recreational places for women is visible.

In this context, the establishment of the women’s park was an important step, which now seems to be wasted due to delay and lack of local administration’s interest.
