MIRPUR (Kashmir English): With the recent climate change, and lack of rain and snowfall this year, the water level in Mangla Dam has dropped to a dead level.
According to the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the water level in Mangla Dam has reached 1050 feet, after which the water release was stopped.
The spokesperson said that Tarbela Dam is only 3 feet higher than the dead level and is likely to reach a dead level in the next 36 hours.
A WAPDA spokesperson said that the water level in Tarbela Dam has dropped to 1402 feet and the water storage in Tarbela is 15 thousand acre-feet, while the water storage in Mangla is 72 thousand acre-feet and the water storage in Chashma is 15 thousand acre-feet.
According to a WAPDA spokesperson, the total water storage in Tarbela, Mangla, and Chashma is 102 thousand acre-feet.
The spokesperson said that the inflow of water into the Indus River at Tarbela is 22,200, the outflow is 20,000 cusecs, the inflow of water into the Jhelum River at Mangla is 19,900 and the outflow is 28,000 cusecs, while the inflow of water into the Chashma Barrage is 38,400, the outflow is 27,000 cusecs.
The spokesperson said that the inflow of water into the Chenab River at Head Marala is 10,800, the outflow is 6,100 cusecs, and the inflow of water into the Kabul River at Nowshera is 14,300, the outflow is 14,300 cusecs.
