MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission on Saturday registered two more political parties ahead of the general election 2026, bringing the total number of registered parties to 14.
The Election Commission spokesperson said All Jammu and Kashmir Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party were formally registered as political parties.
The electoral body said the registration of these political parties was made under the directives of the High Court of AJK and the relevant provisions of the AJK Elections Act and Rules 2020, after a detailed review of the documents submitted by the parties.
The commission further added that the last date for registration of political parties was initially fixed as May 30, 2026. However, to provide more political parties an opportunity to fulfill legal requirements and complete registration, the deadline has now been extended by 10 days until June 10.
The Election Commission added that all political parties meeting the legal criteria under the Elections Act 2020 can submit their applications along with the required documents before the revised deadline.
According to the commission, the ongoing registration process is aimed at ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections while strengthening the electoral system in Azad Kashmir.
