RIYADH (Kashmir English): The Saudi Ministry of Defence has announced that a military force from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has arrived at King Abdulaziz Air Base under the Joint Pak-Saudi defence pact.
According to the statement, the airbase is located in the eastern sector of the kingdom and this deployment is part of the agreed defense cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Defence, this Pakistani contingent consists of fighter and support aircraft, which belong to the Pakistan Air Force, and its aim is to promote military coordination between the armed forces of the two countries.
This deployment of the forces will also raise the level of operational readiness, and strengthen peace and stability at the regional and international levels.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia sign ‘Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement’
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Wednesday signed the “Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement” between the two countries.
The Pak-Saudi defence pact states that any aggression against either country shall be considered an act of aggression against both, a statement from the PM’s office said.
“This agreement, which reflects the shared commitment of both nations to enhance their security and to achieve security and peace in the region and the world, aims to develop aspects of defense cooperation between the two countries and strengthen joint deterrence against any aggression.”
Earlier today, the prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, arrived at Riyadh’s Yamama Palace on Wednesday for a meeting with the Saudi crown prince on multiple issues of bilateral interest.
The premier was welcomed by the Saudi crown prince and presented with a guard of honour.
The statement said that an agreement was reached while building on the historic partnership extending for nearly eight decades between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and based on the bonds of brotherhood and Islamic solidarity, as well as shared strategic interests and close defense cooperation between the two countries.
