NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): In India, a McDonald’s outlet, one of the country’s most popular restaurant ‌chains, was found violating the food safety regulations.

Indian officials warned a McDonald’s outlet ‌in Jaipur after an inspection found the management using cooking ‌oil unfit for consumption and rotten tomatoes in storage.

The regulators seized samples for testing, an official told a news agency.

During inspection at the outlet in Jaipur, a tourist hotspot in the desert state of ‌Rajasthan, inspectors found 40 litres of oil repeatedly used in cooking and unfit of consumption, food safety officer Sushil Chotwani said.

That breached food safety norms and officials collected oil samples for further testing, Chotwani added.

McDonald’s spokesperson

McDonald’s spokesperson in the United States, however, did not respond to the media outlet queries outside regular business hours.

The food safety officer said McDonald’s was issued a warning and ‌given 14 days to fix issues at the outlet or face further “strict” action. He said following the revelations, officials would inspect more McDonald’s outlets in the ‌city.

Food adulteration is common across India, but food quality lapses at high-profile brands like McDonald’s are rare.

McDonald’s has hundreds of outlets in India that draw customers with its burgers and other offerings.
