DHAKA (Kashmir English): A new political party, Network for People’s Action, has officially launched its political activities in Bangladesh.
The platform comprises young social and political activists, reportedly from left-wing and moderate ideologies, who played an active role in last year’s July public movement.
The inaugural ceremony of this platform was held on Friday afternoon at Dhaka’s Central Shaheed Minar, where the formation of a 101-member central council was announced.
On this occasion, Ferdous Ara Rumi, Moinul Islam Tohin, also known as Tohin Khan, and Nazifa Jannat were appointed as spokespersons.
The names of the spokespersons and council members were announced by Mir Huzaifa Al-Mamduh, a member of the central council, who also moderated the event.
Among the spokespersons, Ferdous Ara Rumi and Tohin Khan are known as authors and political activists, while Nazifa Jannat has served as a former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and a student union leader.
The central council also includes 4 former leaders of the National Citizens Party who recently resigned from the party. These include Anik Roy, Tohin Khan, Olok Mree, and Syeda Neelma Dola.
Additionally, Syed Imtiaz Nadvi, a former member of the National Citizens Committee, has also been included in the council.
Other prominent members include Professor Aliver San, former president of the Students Union Baqi Billah, current president of Dhaka University Students Union Megh Mallar Bosu, General Secretary Moin Ahmed, former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Noman Ahmed Chowdhury, and social activist Rafsan Ahmed.
After the event, the three spokespersons presented the platform’s manifesto, outlining 5 fundamental principles. These principles include democracy, equality, human dignity, social justice, and the protection of life, nature, and the environment.
The manifesto referred to Bangladesh’s historical struggle, particularly the July public movement, stating that its aim was not merely a change of rulers but the abolition of a system deemed undemocratic and the establishment of a truly democratic structure.
Current political environment in Bangladesh
The new platform expressed concern over the current political environment, stating that majority dominance is suppressing minority voices, and religious, ethnic, and gender minorities face increasing threats.
Violence by extremist groups is on the rise, and state violence against citizens continues, while fundamental human and civil rights are not effectively protected.
At the end of the event, it was announced that the Network for People’s Action would inform about its future roadmap and activities through a press conference next week.
