ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Senior leader Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Rana Sanaullah, has said that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) wants to postpone elections in Kashmir.
He said after Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq’s government in Azad Kashmir, PML-N wanted elections.
However, he added, PPP preferred to continue with the government. “If elections were held timely in Azad Kashmir, the current situation would not have occurred.”
The PML-N leader said that cooperation between PPP and PML-N is necessary, adding without cooperation the system and government will not be able to run properly. “PPP is part of the government and power.”
He said that as long as the government has to remain, both parties will have to stay together. “We won 8 seats in Gilgit-Baltistan; there were 2 independents and we could have formed the government.” But Nawaz Sharif decided to sit in opposition, he added.
The PML-N Senator said that it was agreed with Bilawal Bhutto that the Governor of Gilgit would be from PML-N, the Deputy Speaker and Leader of the Opposition in GB would also be from PML-N.
The Prime Minister’s advisor said that the proscribed Action Committee did not end the sit-in. He said the issue of 12 seats is not within government of Pakistan or the Azad Kashmir government’s authority; if the Action Committee has any other demands, that can be considered.
He said if government employees are part of the sit-in, it is illegal as a government employee cannot participate in the protest of a proscribed organization.
“If any government employee is part of the protest of a proscribed organization, they should correct their behaviour; if he does not correct behavior, their department will be justified in taking action.”
Punjab local body elections
Rana Sanaullah said that local body elections are going to be held in Punjab. He said that the Prime Minister invited the opposition for negotiations for the fourth time.
Defending Khawaja Asif’s statement on Rawalakot people, Rana Sanaullah said he expressed affinity with Rawalakot people.
“The purpose of Khawaja Asif’s statement was not that the people of Rawalakot are not Kashmiris; rather he wanted to say that the people of Rawalakot are more closer to Punjab.
“Khawaja Asif did not insult the people of Rawalakot but expressed affinity with them.”
