WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced a framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon after four days of talks in Washington, mediated by the Trump administration.

Rubio says that although a framework agreement has been signed between Israel and Lebanon, there is still much to be done.

“It’s the beginning of the beginning,” Rubio said at the signing ceremony. “There’s a lot of work ahead. Today is the first step. The first step is sometimes the hardest one.”

In a statement, the State Department said, “The two sides agreed with the guidance of the United States to swiftly advance the creation of pilot zones in which the Lebanese Armed Forces will take exclusive control of the territory to the exclusion of all non-state actors.”

“These steps will enable progress towards a comprehensive peace and security agreement,” the State Department stated.
