MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated a state-of-the-art cancer hospital and a medical college in Muzaffarabad to provide better healthcare facilities for the people of Azad Kashmir, state-run Radio Pakistan reported on Sunday.
The newly inaugurated projects include the Kashmir Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Oncology and Radiology (KINOR) and the Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq Shaheed Medical College.
The Prime Minister inspected various departments of the hospital and the installed machinery, and was also given a briefing about the facilities for diagnosing and treating the disease.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony in Muzaffarabad, the Prime Minister highlighted that KINOR will provide advanced healthcare services for cancer treatment in Azad Kashmir.
He appreciated the establishment of a hospital in Azad Kashmir for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and said that there is no greater service than serving humanity. He noted that residents of remote areas will no longer need to travel to Islamabad or other cities for treatment of this life-threatening disease.
The Prime Minister also commended the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, philanthropists, and other contributors for their efforts in supporting cancer treatment initiatives.
During his visit, he inspected various departments of KINOR and received a detailed briefing.
Praising the installation of modern equipment such as MRI and mammography machines, he emphasized the importance of ensuring the latest versions of these technologies to provide round-the-clock relief to patients.
Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, Amir Muqam, Atta Tarar, members of the Azad Kashmir Assembly, Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, professors, surgeons, and faculty members were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the hospital and medical college by unveiling a plaque.
It is worth mentioning that KINOR, completed for Rs 5.4 billion, is the first modern facility in Azad Kashmir dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
