Earlier, the news spread like wildfire that veteran actor Dharmendra, one of the most cherished and enduring stars in Hindi cinema, died in Mumbai at the age of 89 on Tuesday morning, following prolonged health issues.
The legendary actor was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on November 10 for what was initially described as a routine check-up, but his condition reportedly worsened over the weekend.
According to his team, Dharmendra breathed his last early Tuesday morning. The news sent shockwaves across the Indian film fraternity, marking the end of an era for Bollywood’s golden age of cinema.
Dharmendra was joined at the hospital by his wife, Hema Malini, sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and other family members during his admission.
Family representatives denied reports that suggested the veteran actor was put on a ventilator, although insiders confirmed that his health was “not in a great state.”
Hema Malini earlier tweeted, “I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji, who is in the hospital for observation. He is being continuously monitored, and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery.”
