NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): A major scandal involving alleged corruption in the Indian army’s recruitment process has come to light, following which reports indicate that court martial proceedings have been initiated against 20 army officers, including a Major General.
This matter is reportedly related to the SSB Kapurthala recruitment scandal, which has raised serious questions about the transparency and integrity of recruitment system in the military.
According to the report, large bribes were taken to declare successful those candidates who had already been deemed unfit in medical examinations during recruitment.
Each candidate was allegedly charged between 50,000 Indian rupees and 10 lakh Indian rupees to clear them despite being rejected on medical grounds.
The role of a soldier has also emerged in this case, who is accused of keeping lists of rejected candidates and acting as a contact point to provide illegal assistance to these individuals.
Allegedly, these lists were used to identify candidates who could be advanced in the recruitment process in exchange for money.
No transparency in Indian military recruitment system
During the investigation, evidence of financial transactions has also emerged. According to reports, payments were traced through digital means, including online transactions and money transfers via UPI.
Furthermore, some payments were allegedly transferred to the accounts of the accused’s family members, providing crucial base for the investigation.
This scandal is being described as a serious blow to transparency in the military recruitment system.
