LAHORE (Kashmir English): At least 12 giraffes have arrived in Lahore from South Africa under special arrangements on Wednesday, the Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department said.

According to the details, nine giraffes will be kept in Lahore Zoo Safari and three in Lahore Zoo.

The large African mammal will be kept in quarantine for at least a month, where wildlife officials and veterinary experts will perform a medical examination. After a positive report, they will be sent to Lahore Safari and Zoo.

The gentle giants were first landed in Karachi before being transported by road to Lahore. The consignment was shipped through a special airline, passing through at least four different airports.

As per the officials, the wildlife department had imported three giraffes for Lahore Zoo in 2018, but two of them died, and the zoo was left with one such animal. The zoo safari will have giraffes for the first time.
