FIFA launches first North African office in World Cup 2030 host Morocco

RABAT (Kashmir English): The football’s governing body, FIFA has opened a regional office in Morocco — the first in North Africa and fifth in the continent — as the kingdom accelerates preparations for the 2030 World Cup which it will host jointly with Portugal and Spain.

“This is a day that will be written in golden letters in the magnificent history of FIFA, African football, Moroccan football, and world football,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said at the inauguration ceremony on Saturday. The event was also attended by the head of the African Football Confederation, Patrice Motsepe.

The inauguration, also attended by the head of the African Football Confederation, Patrice Motsepe. The ceremony took place hours before the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final — in which Nigeria beat hosts Morocco 3-2 — in Rabat.

Morocco will be the second African country to host the World Cup, in 2030, following South Africa hosting the 2010 edition. The kingdom succeeded in its efforts following five unsuccessful bids.

FIFA’s other African offices are located in Senegal, Rwanda, the Republic of Congo, and South Africa.
