KOTLI (Kashmir English): A prisoner was released from Kotli Jail due to a mistaken identity, as two inmates with the same name were serving their sentence for similar crimes.
According to the Azad Kashmir home department spokesperson, the released prisoner has been re-arrested by the police. Due to the departmental error, the wrong prisoner was released instead of the intended one.
An inquiry committee has been formed to determine the officials involved in the incident and identify those responsible for the negligence, the spokesperson said, adding that the inquiry committee will submit its report within 7 days.
The home department official said that strict action will be taken against the responsible persons as per the procedure.
