MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued a high alert in view of the heavy monsoon rains in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) from June 30 to July 5, 2025.

The authority has warned of possible floods, urban flooding, landslides, and other emergencies and has directed the public, district administration, and relevant institutions to be vigilant.

The SDMA said that Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Leepa Valley, Hattian Bala, Bagh, Rawalakot, Sidhanoti, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber districts may be affected by monsoon rains, where there is a risk of waterlogging in low-lying areas, closure of communication roads, and landslides in mountainous areas.

According to the Meteorological Department report, there is a possibility of heavy rains along with gusty winds and hailstorms in some high hilly places, which may affect electricity poles, mud houses, and weak structures.

The SDMA has directed all citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, not to stay in hilly or landslide-prone areas, and to avoid going near rivers, streams, and other waterways. Citizens have been warned to get moment-by-moment weather updates from weather apps, radios, and authentic sources.

The authority has directed the district administration to keep rescue services, health units, and emergency machinery on alert, while special vigilance should be increased in low-lying and sensitive areas.

The people of Azad Kashmir have been asked to immediately report any emergency on the SDMA helpline 1129 so that timely relief operations can be made possible.
