MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): As the month of Zilhaj approaches, preparations for Eid ul Adha 2025 in Pakistan are beginning to take shape. The exact date of Eid ul Adha 2025 will be confirmed after the official moon sighting, which remains a key event in determining the Islamic calendar’s major religious festivals.

This year, Eid ul Adha 2025 in Pakistan is most likely to be observed on Friday, June 6th, depending on the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.

If the moon is seen on Wednesday, May 28th, the first day of Zilhaj will fall on Friday, making Eid day the tenth of Zilhaj, i.e., June 6th. However, the final confirmation will come only after the moon sighting.

The government will announce public holidays after the official moon sighting. As per tradition, Eid ul Adha 2025 in Pakistan will bring a public holiday, depending on the moon sighting and the weekend, the total time off could extend to four or five days.

Last year, in 2024, the Eid ul Adha holidays in Pakistan were officially announced as a three-day public holiday, from June 17th to June 19th. The government of Pakistan announced the start of the holiday.

According to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the crescent moon was sighted on June 7th, marking the start of Zilhaj.

People across the country are eagerly waiting for the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s announcement regarding the Zilhaj moon. The committee, comprising religious scholars and experts, will gather at their designated offices to collect reports from across Pakistan to determine the exact date for Eid ul Adha 2025 in Pakistan.

Regional committees will assist in confirming whether the moon has been sighted or not.

Eid ul Adha 2025 in Pakistan falls on June 6, marking one of Islam’s most treasured festivals. Across the globe, Muslims will gather to celebrate with family meals, laughter, and acts of generosity. But beyond the joyful gatherings and shared feasts, this Eid carries a profound message: one of faith, sacrifice, and compassion for others.

At its core, Eid ul Adha 2025 honours the story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his unwavering devotion to God. Yet it’s more than ritual; it’s a call to selflessness. The festival reminds us to look beyond ourselves, share blessings, support those in need, and strengthen community bonds.

The charity, kindness and company people share on Eid ul-Adha are just some of the ways it represents true giving. It is a chance for our beliefs to appear in our behaviours and for people to unite most strongly.

Ahead of Eid ul Adha this year, many families in Pakistan have begun to visit the animal markets to choose their sacrificial animals.

Many cities, including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar, are getting busy with more activity at the animal markets. Efforts to keep the country clean and safe during Eid are being stepped up by authorities.
