MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has registered five more political parties upon completion of the documents ahead of the AJK general election.

According to the press release issued on Monday, the newly registered political parties include Pakistan Nazriyati Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Gujjar Qaumi Party, All Jammu and Kashmir Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith, and Jammu and Kashmir National Liberation Movement.

After the new registration, the total number of political parties registered in Azad Kashmir has reached 24.

The commission’s spokesperson said the registration of these political parties was made after scrutiny of the documents submitted by the parties under the directives of the High Court and other relevant provisions of the AJK Elections Act and Rules 2020.

Last month, the commission announced the extension of the last date for registration of political parties to June 10, which was initially fixed as May 30, 2026.

The AJK Election Commission said that all political parties meeting the legal criteria under the Elections Act 2020 can submit their applications along with the required documents before the revised deadline.

It said the ongoing registration process is aimed at ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections while strengthening the electoral system in Azad Kashmir.
