ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come under criticism on social media after welcoming the peace deal reached between the US and Iran while not mentioning Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that contributed to the agreement.

In a statement on X, Modi welcomed the understanding between Washington and Tehran on ending the conflict in West Asia.

“I welcome the understanding reached between the United States and Iran on ending the conflict in West Asia, which has caused serious economic disruption across the world and led to loss of life in many countries.”

He further stated India hopes that the implementation of this understanding will help restore peace and stability in the region and ensure the freedom of navigation and commerce.

“We look forward to deliberations on the remaining issues reaching a sustainable final agreement,” Modi wrote.

However, social media users pointed out that Modi’s statement did not acknowledge Pakistan’s role, despite statements from both the conflicting parties highlighting Islamabad’s role in efforts to reduce tensions and facilitate dialogue.

Criticising the Indian PM, researcher and international affairs expert Ashok Swain replied, “Pakistan was the mediator, and Sharif was the first to declare the understanding. Not Trump, like in May 2025.”
