ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The sky-watchers in Pakistan and all over the globe are in for a unique experience as they observe the “Blue Moon,” which happens on Sunday, May 31.

According to astronomers, a “Blue Moon” occurs in an instance where there are two full moons in one calendar month. The first full moon appeared earlier this month, dubbed the “Flower Moon,” while the other occurred on the 31st of May.

Nevertheless, people shouldn’t expect to see a blue-colored moon because it will only show up as white as any normal full moon. However, the Blue Moon might seem a little brighter than any other regular full moon.

This particular phenomenon will also mark what scientists refer to as a “Micromoon.” Astronomers have said that this moon will be at a certain distance from the Earth’s surface during this month, meaning that it will appear a bit smaller than any other normal full moon.

For Pakistani viewers, the phenomenon can be seen just after sunset on Sunday, coming up into the night sky from the east. There is no doubt that the moon will be clearly visible without using any kind of telescope.

Due to the infrequency of Blue Moons, which occur every two to three years on average, people have become quite excited about them. This is because the rare alignment of the celestial bodies is considered quite interesting both from an aesthetic point of view and from a scientific perspective.
