BHIMBER (Kashmir English): In a recent development, the Wildlife Department has issued a clarification on the news circulating on social media regarding wild boar meat being sold in Bhimber district.

According to the Wildlife Department, the Assistant Director of Wildlife, Mirpur Division, has clarified that there is no truth in the news circulating online. People illegally hunt wild boars using dogs to protect crops. Sometimes they catch the animals and release dogs on them, which is a prohibited act, the Wildlife Department stated.

Earlier, an official from the Wildlife Department, Bhimber, confiscated five nets used for catching wild boars on the night of October 10. The accused, including a resident named Shafiq Gujjar, fled the scene, leaving behind the incriminating evidence.

According to sources, the suspects were involved in capturing wild boars for dog fighting and hunting purposes. This practice has been reported in Bhimber and its surrounding areas, where individuals keep dogs specifically for hunting wild animals.

A challan has been prepared, and the accused will face legal action after being presented before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bhimber. The authorities have clarified that there is no truth to the social media rumors regarding meat, and the focus is on addressing the illegal hunting and poaching activities.

The Wildlife Department’s efforts to protect Pakistan’s wildlife are ongoing, and this operation serves as a warning to those involved in such illicit activities.
