MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Inspector General of Police Azad Jammu and Kashmir Captain (retd) Liaquat Ali Malik has alleged that the Banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) pursued a “nefarious agenda” aimed at maligning the police and spreading anti-state propaganda in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a ceremony in Muzaffarabad on Police Martyrs’ Day, the IG said the organization, which he described as banned, had allegedly subjected the family members of police martyr Aqib Shaheed to harassment and torture when they arrived to receive his body.
The IG claimed that family members were allegedly stripped, tortured and subjected to the making of “immoral videos,” while questioning those who, according to him, were presenting a different narrative without knowing the facts of the incident.
“Ask Aqib Shaheed’s father about the truth,” the IG said, challenging the claims being circulated against the Kashmir police.
Captain (retd) Liaquat Ali Malik further alleged that Aqib Shaheed died in an ambulance and that the Prohibited Action Committee kept his body for four days.
The AJK police chief also questioned what he described as a double standard in portraying police personnel and armed attackers. He asked whether a person who burns someone alive should be considered a victim or a protector of the country.
“Even if policemen are injured by bullets, they are still called tyrants, while those who fire the bullets are portrayed as oppressed. What kind of justice is this?” he questioned.
The IG said the alleged campaign against the police was aimed at creating mistrust and promoting an anti-state narrative in AJK. He maintained that the “sinister conspiracy” to spread such propaganda had failed.
He paid tribute to police martyrs and reiterated that the sacrifices of law-enforcement personnel would not be allowed to be undermined through what he described as misinformation and propaganda.
