LONDON (Kashmir English): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that the final of the World Test Championship to be held next year has been awarded to The Oval in London instead of Lord’s.
According to the ICC, the World Test Championship final will be played at The Oval from June 9 to June 13, 2027.
The ICC announced last year that England has been awarded the rights to host the 2027, 2029 and 2031 World Test Championship finals, while the host ground for each edition will be selected by the England and Wales Cricket Board itself.
It was believed that the 2027 World Test Championship final would likely be held at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground, like the previous final. But the England Cricket Board decided to hold the final at The Oval instead.
According to the report, a major reason for this decision is concerns about the quality of the Lord’s pitches.
Lord’s was first given a demerit point by the ICC last month after the pitch was deemed unsatisfactory for a Test match between England and New Zealand.
This will be the second time the Oval has hosted the World Test Championship final.
The final was previously played at the same venue in 2023, when Australia defeated India to win the World Test Championship.
