LAHORE (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday said that opening batter Saim Ayub has been released from the men’s ODI squad for the remainder of the ongoing tri-series, featuring England and Sri Lanka.
In a press release, the PCB said that the national selection committee has subsequently named Sahibzada Farhan as Saim’s replacement for the remainder of the tri-series.
Farhan was left out of Pakistan’s squad for the tri-series. He had been named captain of the T-20I side for the series against Sri Lanka this month and led Pakistan at the Asian Games.
“After a conversation with the head coach, Saim expressed a desire to return to domestic cricket to work on his batting form and regain confidence,” it stated.
Respecting Saim’s decision and appreciating his honest assessment of his current form, the team management and national selection committee have mutually agreed to accept this request, the PCB said.
Earlier, PCB released left-arm spinner Sufiyan Moqim for batter Maaz Sadaqat, citing the nature of the pitch at Gaddafi Stadium.
Pakistan have qualified for the final of the tri-nation series with three consecutive wins and will face Sri Lanka in the fifth match of the series at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday.
