MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): An alleged letter written by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir to Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has come to light.
Qadir was among the names reportedly under consideration for the AJK prime ministership following the 2026 general elections in the region, but the party chose Iftikhar Gilani for the top post.
After being dropped from the race for the post of PM, Shah Ghulam Qadir approached the army chief regarding an issue linked to his political career rather than first taking up the matter with the party leadership.
Political analysts alleged that if Qadir was unhappy with the decision, he should have written the letter to party president Nawaz Sharif, not the military leadership.
Failed attempt to hide political failure
They added that Shah Ghulam Qadir made serious allegations against an incumbent Sector Commander of ISI in Azad Kashmir to hide his political failure.
In his alleged letter to the army chief, an AJK lawmaker claimed that an ISI sector commander had described him as a “CI case” i.e., a counter-espionage case and had allegedly presented a report to senior officials, which he said contributed to his exclusion from the race for the prime ministership.
He also alleged that the officer had shown a report to journalists and politicians accusing him and his daughter of having links with hostile intelligence agencies through some NGOs. He rejected the allegations and sought an inquiry.
The politician maintained that the allegations against him and his daughter are false, requesting the army chief to constitute an inquiry and summon both the accuser and the accused.
However, the letter has raised several questions, including whether Shah Ghulam Qadir contacted PML-N President Nawaz Sharif over the matter before or after writing the alleged letter.
A political analyst questioned whether he held any press conference after the prime minister’s decision or formally objected to any decision taken by the party’s central leadership.
Another key question is whether the PML-N central leadership will launch a formal inquiry into the alleged letter and the objections raised in it.
