SDMA issues landslide alert for Azad Kashmir

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Kashmir has issued a landslide alert in the mountainous areas of Azad Kashmir from April 30 to May 3.

The SDMA has predicted heavy rains and severe weather conditions in various districts of the state, starting tomorrow till weekend.

According to the weather advisory, during this time, there is a strong possibility of heavy rains with strong winds and thunderstorms in Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Jhelum Valley, Bagh, Haveli, Poonch, and Sidhnauti.

During these weather conditions, the risk of flooding in rain-fed rivers and streams and landslides in mountainous areas has increased.

The SDMA has urged the population living near rivers and streams to remain extremely cautious, while citizens have been advised to completely avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather.

The administration has also issued special instructions for tourists not to visit mountainous places without taking protective measures.

Furthermore, all relevant agencies have been ordered to be ready at all times to deal with any emergency and keep the machinery active so that the restoration of highways can be made possible immediately in case of a landslide.

The southern part of the country is gripped by intense heat, with temperatures expected to reach 52 degrees as the meteorological department has issued a heatwave alert.

On the other hand, the PMD has warned that temperatures may rise to an extraordinary level during May and June, predicting intense heat and heatwaves in the central and southern regions of the country.
