LAHORE (Kashmir English): Former federal minister and PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique said in a sarcastic post that rusted arrows hunt foxes, not lions, in a veiled attack on the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) ahead of the AJK elections.
In a sarcastic post on a social media site after Bilawal Bhutto’s speech in the Mirpur area of Azad Kashmir, Khawaja Saad Rafique wrote that bent and rusted arrows might be able to hunt jackals and foxes but not lions.
He wrote that lions cannot be hunted with these arrows and anyway, you cannot do this.
“Rusted arrows hunt foxes, not lions… you cannot do it.”
It should be noted that the PPP’s election campaign is ongoing in Azad Kashmir, during which Bilawal Bhutto has addressed two rallies so far.
He had said that by raining arrows, they would hunt the lion in Kashmir just as they did in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Taking exception to the Saad Rafique’s remarks, PPP’s Sharjeel Memon termed his statement political bankruptcy.
Khawaja Saad Rafique’s statement
Senior Sindh Minister Memon declared Khawaja Saad Rafique’s statement extremely irresponsible, an attempt to distort history, and against national unity.
Reacting to the PML-N leader’s statement, Sharjeel Memon said that Khawaja Saad Rafique has become a victim of political bankruptcy and moral poverty, adding neither history nor public opinion can be changed with sarcastic remarks.
He said that the Fall of Dhaka is a tragic incident in Pakistan’s history, the wounds of which are still fresh in the hearts of the entire nation, and added using such a sensitive national tragedy for political point-scoring is equivalent to rubbing salt into the nation’s wounds.
Sharjeel Memon said that before holding Shaheed Bhutto responsible for the Fall of Dhaka, Khawaja Saad Rafique should have read the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report.
“Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave Pakistan a consensus constitution and laid the foundation of the nuclear program.”
He said that Shaheed Bhutto united the Islamic world on one platform and gave political awareness to the people.
He said PML-N still counts the detonation of the atomic bomb given by Shaheed Bhutto as its own success. “The Bhutto family’s services are a bright chapter in Pakistani history, which cannot be denied on the basis of political opposition.”
Memon said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto is remembered throughout the world as a symbol of democracy, courage, and public rights, and warned that making national history controversial while targeting the Bhutto family with political criticism is a very regrettable style of politics.
The senior provincial minister said that PML-N should actually avoid making bitter national tragedies of the past into political weapons.
He said that Pakistan does not need hateful narratives and historical divisions, rather unity, tolerance, and the politics of the future.
