NEW DELHI (Kashmir English): A court in the city of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, has issued a non-bailable warrant against prominent Indian actress Rakhi Sawant in connection with a 2010 suicide case.
According to Indian media, this action was taken due to the actress’s repeated failure to appear in court.
Reports indicate that the case relates to allegedly insulting remarks made against an individual on Rakhi Sawant’s television show, ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’; the individual subsequently died by alleged suicide.
On October 16, the Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Fast Track Court issued the warrant, directing the police to arrest the actress and produce her before the court.
According to Indian media, public prosecutor Mridul Kant Srivastava stated that the next hearing in the case is scheduled for December 1.
The case concerns the death of Lakshman Ahirwar—a resident of the Hansari Prem Nagar area in Jhansi—who passed away on November 10, 2010. In the complaint filed, his mother, Savitri, alleged that Rakhi Sawant had used insulting and inappropriate language against her son during a program broadcast in October 2010.
These allegations are currently part of the ongoing judicial proceedings.
