Doha: Spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed, expressed support for Pakistan-led mediation between the US and Iran, saying that Doha is working within the mediation team in support of the efforts of “our brothers” in Pakistan.

Speaking during the weekly media briefing, Dr. Al Ansari said that following the Islamabad Talks, contacts were made with various countries in the region, including Qatar, to bridge differences between the parties.

He added that Qatar participated in mediation with a role focused primarily on supporting the Pakistani efforts aimed at reaching a common understanding between the two sides.

“The mediation was aimed at ensuring the restoration of normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, maintaining the ceasefire, and moving forward with negotiations between the parties,” he maintained.

“We must praise the role Pakistan has played to get us to this point, and the role that they will play forward as the main mediator between the US and Iran,” the Foreign Office’s spokesperson added.

He expressed Qatar’s cautious optimism that the signing of the memorandum of understanding will lead to the next phase of negotiations, contributing to regional stability through talks focused on the nuclear file and regional security issues.

The official further told reporters that Qatar will be represented at the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday, alongside other regional stakeholders and the Pakistani mediators.

The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson stressed that no conflict in the world ends without a sustainable mechanism to address it, and that achieving stability in the region requires continued dialogue, while lasting peace can only be achieved through an ongoing political process.
