MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Citizens across Azad Kashmir have expressed deep concern over alleged attacks onsecurity forces, police, and law enforcement personnel during the sit-ins and activities of the proscribed ‘Joint Awami Action Committee.’ It is now time to deal with these armed groups in accordance with state law.
According to a report by Kashmir Digital, participants of the proscribed Action Committee have allegedly been targeting law enforcement personnel in Rawalakot and its surrounding areas over the past few days, resulting in several personnel being injured or martyred.
This situation has posed a severe threat to peace and order in the region. Residents from areas along the Line of Control state that the proud people of this region have always stood as staunch supporters—essentially ‘unpaid soldiers’—of the Pakistan Armed Forces and the country.
Describing the actions of the proscribed Action Committee as foolish and condemnable, citizens emphasized that security forces and police personnel are deployed to protect the lives and property of the public and to uphold the rule of law; therefore, no one can be permitted to attack them.
They further noted that the daily lives of residents in Rawalakot and its surrounding areas have been completely paralyzed due to these ongoing sit-ins and protest activities, which have persisted for the past four to five months. Citizens have urged the Azad Kashmir government and law enforcement agencies to exercise their constitutional and legal authority to take strict action against these elements—and to bring an end to the sit-ins—in order to safeguard the public interest, protect the businesses of traders, and restore a secure life for ordinary citizens.
