MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday made it mandatory for all arms licence holders residing in the state to register their licences at the nearest police stations within 10 days.

According to a notification issued by the Home Department, the directive applies to all types of weapons and covers licences issued both in AJK and other parts of Pakistan.

Under the notification, Station House Officers (SHOs) or their designated representatives will record the details of each licence and issue registration slips to the holders.

Daily consolidated lists of registered licences will also be sent to the concerned Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police, the notification added.

It further stated that all licences not registered within 10 days of the publication of the notification will be treated as cancelled, irrespective of where they were issued.

“Any person found in possession of weapons or ammunition without a registered licence shall be liable to be proceeded against under the law that shall invariably and in all cases result in arrest besides confiscation of the defaulted weapon,” the notification added.
