GILGIT (Kashmir English): The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has allotted different election symbols to the PTI-backed candidates as it treated them as independents.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Democratic Party was not allowed to contest the elections.
According to sources, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Gilgit-Baltistan has announced its candidates for the Assembly Elections 2026, and under an electoral understanding, it has also decided to allocate four seats to its allied party, MWM.
According to a statement issued by the PTI central secretariat, signed by Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the party has finalized candidates for 23 constituencies in Gilgit-Baltistan.
It is noteworthy that due to the Election Commission Gilgit-Baltistan not recognizing PTI as a political party on the basis of not holding intra-party elections, candidates will contest the elections as independents under various electoral symbols.
PTI, MWM candidates
Under the PTI-MWM alliance, Muhammad Ilyas Siddiqui (MWM) has been nominated for GBA-1 Gilgit-I; Riaz Akbar (MWM) for GBA-5 Nagar-II; Muhammad Kazim Meesam (MWM) for GBA-8 Skardu-II; and Wazir Azhar Mehdi (MWM) for GBA-9 Skardu-III.
PTI candidates include Atiq Pirzada for GBA-2 Gilgit-II, Syed Sohail Abbas for GBA-3 Gilgit-III, Zulfiqar Ali Beheshti for GBA-4 Nagar-I, and Naik Nam Karim for GBA-6 Hunza.
In Baltistan Division, Raja Muhammad Zakaria Khan Maqpoon has been issued a ticket for GBA-7 Skardu, Dr. Muhammad Sharif for GBA-10 Skardu, Syed Mohsin Zaidi for GBA-11 Kharmang, and Advocate Muhammad Hassan Shigri for GBA-12 Shigar.
For Astore, Shahida has been nominated for GBA-13 Astore-.
In Diamer, tickets have been issued to Naushad Alam (GBA-15 Diamer), Asid Abid Iqbal (GBA-16 Diamer), Haji Kaman (GBA-17 Diamer), and Ayub Qureshi (GBA-18 Diamer).
From Ghizer, Sher Azeem Khan has been nominated for GBA-19 Ghizer-I, Nadeem Rafiq GBA-20 Ghizer, and Raja Jahanzaib GBA-21 Ghizer-III.
In Ghanche, Muhammad Akhtar Khan (GBA-22 Ghanche-), Abdul Rahim (GBA-23 Ghanche-), Sadaqat Hussain (GBA-24 Ghanche) have been nominated.
