MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Maqbool Gujjar took oath as member of the Legislative Assembly from Constituency LA-35 Jammu 2, on Tuesday.

It could happen only following the Supreme Court’s annulment of the Election Tribunal’s decision and the subsequent notification, in which Chaudhry Maqbool Gujjar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was officially declared an elected member of the assembly from Constituency LA-35, Jammu 2.

During the session, Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar administered the oath of membership of the Assembly to Chaudhry Maqbool Gujjar.

After taking the oath, Chaudhry Maqbool, addressing the House, stated that the institutions of Azad Kashmir have shown exemplary performance by providing him justice in just three years.

He referred to historical cases, stating that decisions in some cases come decades later, but according to him, swift justice in his case is a positive aspect.

On this occasion, the Speaker advised him to be cautious regarding some of his remarks and instructed him to maintain parliamentary discipline.

PTI leader’s address

Chaudhry Maqbool stated in his address that he no longer wished to be part of any political controversy as the assembly’s term was now limited.

He also apologized for any inappropriate behaviour or misunderstanding with any fellow member during his previous and current terms of membership.

During the session, former Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan congratulated Chaudhry Maqbool on his return to the House.

However, he made a political reference, stating that questions have been raised in the past regarding members who changed political loyalties.

Farooq Haider further said that members of the assembly take an oath to keep government information confidential, but, he added, sometimes violations of this oath occur.

Chaudhry Maqbool clarified on this occasion that his statement was not intended to hurt anyone’s feelings and that he did not want to create further controversy.

He stated that he considers the trust of the people of his constituency as his greatest responsibility, and according to him, the people have once again given him their trust through the power of their vote.
