PML-N announces candidates for 19 Gilgit-Baltistan constituencies

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, leader and president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has announced the names of party candidates for the upcoming general elections of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.

As many as 19 individuals were formally issued tickets for 19 constituencies, while tickets have not been issued in 5 constituencies so far.

Shafiquddin from Gilgit 1 and former Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman from Gilgit 2 will be the Muslim League-N candidates, while Muhammad Iqbal from Gilgit 3 and Shahzada Saleem from Hunza 6 have been fielded in the electoral arena.

Muhammad Akbar Taban and Kacho Imtiaz Haider will represent the party from Skardu 1 and Skardu 2 respectively, while Ajmal Hussain has been awarded ticket for Skardu 3 and Syed Mohsin Rizvi for Kharmang.

Muhammad Tahir Inhar Shigri from Shigar and Farman Ali from Astore 1 will be party candidates, while Rana Muhammad Farooq from Astore 2 and Abdul Wajid from Diamer 1 have been nominated.

In other constituencies of Diamer, Engineer Muhammad Anwar from Diamer 2, Muhammad Zaman from Diamer 3, and Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman from Diamer 4 will contest the elections.

Zafar Muhammad will be candidate from Ghizer 1, Abdul Jahan from Ghizer 2, and Ghulam Muhammad from Ghizer 3.

Gilgit-Baltistan constituencies

Muhammad Ibrahim Sanai has been nominated as the party’s candidate from Ghanche 1, while candidates for constituencies GBA 4, 5, 11, 23, and 24 have not been finalized.

It is possible that the N-League leadership has left 5 constituencies vacant for a potential new alliance, but party officials say that the announcement of these tickets will be made in the second phase.

Mian Nawaz Sharif has instructed the candidates to vigorously start their election campaigns and expressed his determination that the Muslim League-N will achieve a landslide victory in Gilgit-Baltistan and resume the journey of development in the area from where it was interrupted.
