ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned mobile phone users about sharing misleading, hateful, defamatory, blasphemous, or anti-state content.

In a statement, the telecom authority has urged users to use social media responsibly and warned them that sharing blasphemous, anti-state, pornographic content, and false news is a crime.

It said that users should refrain from sharing all kinds of illegal content on social media. The PTA also appealed to users to report such content to the PTA and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

“Refrain from spreading illegal, hateful, defamatory, and false information that may harm the reputation of state institutions, the judiciary, or any individual,” PTA wrote in a post on X.

“Under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, such activities are punishable offenses,” it stated.

PTA warns against use of foreign SIMs

Earlier, the PTA had issued an important and urgent public awareness alert regarding the use of foreign SIMs across the country.

The authority said that the use of foreign SIMs in Pakistan is “illegal and prohibited”, and that it can cause serious problems for citizens.

“The purchase and sale of foreign SIMs is not only illegal, but their use can also cause trouble for you,” the PTA wrote in a post on X.

The authority had warned citizens that calls and messages made from such foreign SIMs can compromise their personal and financial information and also lead to legal complications.

“Always buy SIMs from nearby franchises or registered outlets. Ensure that the SIM is registered in your name,” it added.
