MZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The long march towards Muzaffarabad planned by the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) for 9th Muharram has reportedly been withdrawn.
In a post on X, the Awami Action Committee, quoting core-member Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri, has urged the protestors to fully participate in sit-ins only, despite directly mentioning the postponement or cancellation of the long march.
Yet, as the deadline expired, the much-hyped march failed to materialize.
“The public should continue shutting down, and wheel jam strikes. Participate fully in sit-ins. We will always prefer martyrdom to this life of exploitation,” Umar Kashmiri said.
The action committee stated that the deadline given to the government, 8 Muharram, is about to end today.
Awami Action Committe (@JAAC__Official) June 23, 2026
“There has always been a voice against oppression and exploitation. The powerful have been crushing it, but with each passing day, this voice seems to be getting more organized,” the post noted.
After days of ultimatums and warnings, the leadership quietly stepped back from its announced course of action.
