ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain, wind and thunderstorms in the upper and central regions of the country on August 20.
The Meteorological Department says that intermittent rain is likely to continue in the upper and central regions from August 19 to 21.
Rain, wind and thunderstorms are expected at some places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Potohar region and northeast Punjab on August 20.
The Meteorological Department has warned that due to heavy rain, urban flooding is likely in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot.
According to the Meteorological Department and Flood Forecasting Division, widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad and Kashmir on August 20.
Rain is expected in Abbottabad, Bajaur, Battagram, Buner, Haripur, Dir, Malakand, Mansehra, Mardan, Shangla, Swabi, Swat and Torghar of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Gujranwala, Gujarat, Jhelum, Lahore, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura and Sialkot.
There may be rain in Attock, Chakwal, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Khushab, Mandi Bahauddin, Nankana Sahib and Sargodha. Rain and thunderstorms have also been predicted in some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, widespread rain is expected in the upper catchments of rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during the next 48 hours.
According to the Meteorological Department, the water level in the Ravi and Chenab and their associated drains may reach low to medium flood level. Flash flooding has also been predicted in the mountain drains of DG Khan and the tributaries of the Kabul River.
The relevant agencies need to be cautious due to the risk of urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Gujarat.
According to the special weather assessment of the Potohar region of the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected from August 18 to 20, while the temperature is likely to remain between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has directed citizens to be careful of low-lying areas, drains and unnecessary travel during the rain, while the relevant agencies should make necessary arrangements in view of the risk of possible urban flooding and flash flooding.
According to the Meteorological Department, this series of rains is likely to continue intermittently in the upper areas even after August 20.
