ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined the Pakistan women’s cricket team 5 percent of the match fee after the first game of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

The cricketing body imposed a fine for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match against India in Birmingham on Sunday, which the Green Shirts lost by 64 runs.

According to the ICC press release, Referee Trudy Anderson imposed the sanction after “Pakistan were ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.”

As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, the ICC is allowed to fine players five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

The press release added that Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana pled guilty to the offence and accepted the punishment.

“On-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacquline Williams, third umpire Eloise Sheridan, and fourth umpire Sue Redfern levelled the charge,” it added.

India wins Pakistan game

Pakistan had a disappointing start to the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, where arch-rivals India defeated the national team and started their journey with a win in the event.

After India elected to bat first, the team put 170 runs on the board, which Pakistan failed to chase and were bowled out for 106.

Batting first, India’s Smriti Mandhana played an innings of 68 runs, Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed for 36 runs, and Richa Ghosh scored 34 runs in 17 balls. Sadia Iqbal took 2 wickets for Pakistan.

Chasing a target, Pakistan got off to a 38-run start with openers Muniba Ali and Gul Feroza.

After Gul Feroza’s wicket, the Green Shirts could not maintain the momentum, and wickets continued to fall, with 6 of Pakistan’s batters failing to reach double figures. The whole team bowled out in the 17th over for just 106 runs.

Muniba Ali was the standout performer for the Green Shirts with 41 runs. India’s Deepti Sharma took five wickets for 10 runs in four overs.
