ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan, on Sunday, strongly condemned the US strikes on Iran following reports of missile attacks targeting Iranian nuclear facilities. In a strong official statement, Islamabad described the strikes as a clear violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
“We are gravely concerned at the possible further escalation of tensions in the region,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) spokesperson said in a statement issued.
The Foreign Office expressed deep concern over the situation, stating that such actions only add to the rising tensions in the Middle East. Pakistan reaffirmed Iran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, emphasizing that every sovereign nation has the right to protect its territory against external aggression.
The statement reads: ‘Pakistan condemns the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities which follow the series of attacks by Israel. We are gravely concerned at the possible further escalation of tensions in the region.
We reiterate that these attacks violate all norms of international law and that Iran has the legitimate right to defend itself under the UN Charter.
The unprecedented escalation of tension and violence, owing to ongoing aggression against Iran is deeply disturbing. Any further escalation of tensions will have severely damaging implications for the region and beyond.
The statement warned that the “unprecedented escalation of tension and violence” could have far-reaching consequences not just for the Middle East but for global peace and security. “Any further escalation of tensions will have severely damaging implications for the region and beyond,” it cautioned.
Pakistan called for the immediate cessation of hostilities, urging all parties to respect civilian lives and property and adhere strictly to international humanitarian law.
Reiterating its support for diplomacy, the Foreign Office said: “Recourse to dialogue and diplomacy, in line with the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, remains the only viable pathway to resolve the crises in the region.”
This condemnation comes shortly after similar criticism of Israeli military actions in Iran earlier this month. Pakistani officials had also called those actions illegitimate and warned that they could push the entire region toward further conflict.
